What is AQI of Mumbai and Delhi ? What is AQI and how it's calculated?

AQI (Air Quality Index) has reported Mumbai and Delhi air pollution level 2 that is moderate which is not good for people living there. But first let's find out how it's calculated.

How it's calculated?

The AQI is calculated by converting measured pollutant concentrations to a uniform index which is based on the health effects associated with a pollutant.

How many stages are there?

Air pollution is often classified into several stages based on the severity of pollution and its impact on human health and the environment. While specific classifications may vary, typically, air pollution stages can be broadly categorized as follows:

1. Good (0-100): Indicates that the air quality is satisfactory, and the air poses little or no risk to human health. This stage signifies minimal pollution levels.

2. Moderate(100-200): Indicates that the air quality is acceptable; however, some pollutants may be of concern for a very small number of people who are unusually sensitive to air pollution.

3. Unhealthy(200-300): Indicates that everyone may begin to experience health effects, and members of sensitive groups may experience more serious health effects. This stage signifies an increase in the risk of respiratory and heart-related illnesses in the general population.

5. Very Unhealthy(300-400): Indicates that the air quality is a health concern for everyone and that everyone may experience more serious health effects.

6. Hazardous(400-500): Indicates that the air quality is a health alert, meaning everyone may experience more serious health effects.

These stages help to communicate the potential health risks associated with different levels of air pollution, allowing people to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the adverse effects of poor air quality.

Delhi NCR region record poor air quality around 162 around 6 am on October 21st according to AQI and 173 according to System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR).

17 out of 22 monitoring station in Mumbai recorded moderate level of Air pollution. Mumbai recorded 159 on AQI.

AQI can be changed every time it's not permanent but the point is how much time will it take for government of the both Mumbai and Delhi to find a solution for this poor air quality.

United States: The U.S. spends 2.4% of its GDP on infrastructure, p...
